Why would you not go to Ljubljana? You should go to Ljubljana; you must go to Ljubljana; Go To Ljubljana! Go and stay in a city still preserving its old small town feel and then explore a country dotted with castles and caves.
Myth has never been too kind to dragons and in Slovenia also they are not seen in good light. But, there is one dragon which is a hero, the dragon protector of Ljubljana. Capital and the biggest city of Slovenia is probably the one of the most beautiful places I have been to. In midst of a city, they have preserved a small town feel. Not more than a kilometre from railway station is the Preseren Square and the Ljublajanica River. On a fair evening or for that matter even morning one can see people hanging about here, street performers playing music and old country style market set up. The place has a very calm and serene feel to it. More than a tourist attraction it gives a feel of the place one would want to settle down in.
Ljubljana is good to spend a few quite days in an old and beautiful city or to use it as a base to explore nearby Slovenian attractions. In the midst of city sits a very beautiful castle on a hill top, there are gardens and bridges which are beautiful and attract people. On a sunny day one can find people sipping tea and wine by the river. The market set up behind the church sales mostly local and traditional items. Inner city is not that big, everything is a 20 minutes’ walk away. Walking about to see the city would not take more than 3 – 4 hours. Vehicles are not allowed in most part of inner city. Tripe Bridge and Dragon Bridge see most of the old town activities. You will also find a lock bridge here like many other European cities with a river.
I spent a good part of my morning sitting by town hall and listening to music played by street performers. People here actually were stopping by on a weekday morning to listen to the music, appreciate it and pay the performers.
I stayed on one of the major lanes of city with movie theatre and markets, so I could see a lot of people walking about till late night otherwise in this city it is very difficult to see a bunch big enough to call it a crowd. On a typical night you would see small group of people, families, and couples walking about quietly or sitting at one of the squares.
Want to relax on a holiday while having a couple of adventure trips in between, go to Ljubljana and then explore nearby caves and castles.
